Facts

  • This is one of the world's most respected universities, with an especially large concentration of Nobel Prize winners among its faculty.
  • The campus is on the south side of Chicago, and was built on lands surrounding the site of the 1893 World Columbian Exposition.
  • The dominant architectural style is neo-gothic, with many traditional ivy-covered buildings arranged in shady quadrangles. All new construction is required to pay homage to the spirit of gothic architecture, although the interpretation is left up to the architect.
  • The architectural wonder of the campus is the Robie House, one of Frank Lloyd Wright's representative works.
