Kinloch is the oldest African-American community to be incorporated in the state of Missouri. It was a vibrant community until the city of St. Louis began to buy out property as part of the expansion of Lambert-Saint Louis International Airport in the 1980s. The airport took a vast majority of Kinloch's residences and the community lost 75% of its population in the 1990s. The city is part of the NorthPark redevelopment plan that will offer office, retail, and industrial space. NorthPark will be spread across parts of Kinloch, Ferguson and Berkeley.
