Town at a once major railroad stopping point along the route through the Cascade Mountians. Skykomish was incorporated in 1909 and by the 1920s the city had well over 2,000 residents. Today, the town is not more than a handful of businesess and homes.
In December 1970 the business district was nearly destroyed by a fire. The fire destroyed the old false front buildings between the Skykomish Hotel and the Whistling Post Tavern that gave the town the western frontier look typical of so many railroad towns.
