Also known to many as simply Rosarito, this tourist town is located on the Baja California's Gold Coast about 18 miles south of the US-Mexican international border. Rosarito Beach originally developed as a suburb of Tijuana, but after tremendous economic growth from hotel and condominium construction in the early 1990s, it was converted into the fifth municapility (county) of the state of California Baja. In 1997, Rosarito received an immense tourism boost after it was chosen as a filming location for the 1997 blockbuster film "Titanic." The city is host to more than thirty annual sporting and tourist events, including the popular Rosarito-Ensenada Bike Ride.
