Just 1 1/2 hours east of downtown Seattle, Ellensburg is the county seat for Kittitas County and was incorporated in 1883. Beautiful victorian brick buildings were built after a large fire destroyed most of the downtown on July 4, 1889. The city was also a contender for the State Capitol and even built a governor's mansion, but the capital stayed in Olympia. The city is the home of Central Washington University (CSU).
