Indiana is located 55 miles (89 km) northeast of Pittsburgh. It is the county seat of Indiana County and home to Indiana University of Pennsylvania, the fifth largest university in the state. Indiana grew as a center of coal mining, but has faced economic challenges with that industry's decline. Famed actor Jimmy Stewart was born here in 1908. Renee Fleming, one of the world's top lyric sopranos, was born here in 1959.
