Founded in 1836 by Judge John J. Harper, and incorporated on February 2, 1839, Auburn is located in extreme east, central Alabama. Originally established in 1856 as the East Alabama Male College, the city is most well known as being the home of Auburn University. Since its founding, Auburn has grown to be the largest institution of higher learning within the state having an enrollment of over 23,000 students.
