Lawrence is a suburb of Indianapolis approximately 10 miles northeast of downtown. As one of the 'excluded' towns in the UNIGOV plan, Lawrence retained its independence when the City of Indianapolis merged with Marion County in 1970. The northern parts of the town border Geist Reservoir, and the city is undergoing much redevelopment on the site of the former Fort Benjamin Harrison.
