Culver City is a small town west of Los Angeles, near the Century City business district and Los Angeles International Airport. It was founded in 1917 by Harry H. Culver from Nebraska, who dreamed of a balanced city. To that end, Culver established the city in a temperate zone, along a transportation route, and alongside railroad tracks, halfway between the growing pueblo of Los Angeles and Abbot Kinney's resort of Venice. Today Culver City is home to two of Hollywood's major film studios: the giant Sony Pictures Studios (formarly MGM Studios) and the historic Culver Studios.
