The county seat of Floyd County, New Albany is the largest of the Falls Cities of Southern Indiana, just across the Ohio River from Louisville, Kentucky. Just to the west and north of New Albany are the Knobs, a prominent escarpment with hills and cliffs rising up to 600 feet above the plain to the east. Horseshoe Casino Hotel Southern Indiana is located several miles downstream near the village of Elizabeth.
