Laughlin is a census-designated place and unincorporated community located on the Colorado River, across from Bullhead City and 94 miles (152.3 km) south of Las Vegas. The city ranks third among Nevada cities in gaming revenue (after Las Vegas and Reno). The city was originally founded by Don Laughlin of Minnesota in 1966 with the completion of his Riverside Casino. In 1987, he completely funded a bridge over the Colorado River at a cost of $3.5 million in, and over a decade later he spent $9 million on flood control and planning for the Laughlin/Bullhead City International Airport.
