Pforzheim is known as the Gold City. Situated on the Northern fringes of the Black Forest, the city is Germany's leading center of jewellery and clock manufacturing. Towards the end of WWII, the city center was completely destroyed, to be rebuilt from scratch in the 1950s. This left the city center with a rather uninspired architectural flair - a fact that did not change until the late 1970s.
