Beverly Hills is a city in Los Angeles county, California. Its 5.7 square miles are centered along Wilshire Boulevard and Santa Monica Boulevard, and reach up into the Santa Monica Mountains. Except for a short border with West Hollywood, it is completely surrounded by the city of Los Angeles. Originally an old Spanish land grant called El Rancho de las Aguas, it was named Beverly Hills by a developer in 1906. Douglas Fairbanks and Mary Pickford were the first celebrities to make their home here in 1919. Today, the city is famous as the home of movie stars and fashionable shopping along Rodeo Drive.
