A commercial and industrial city on the west fork of the White River, 35 miles northeast of Indianapolis. Anderson's first boom came in the 1880s with the discovery of natural gas in the area. Later growth was based on automobile parts manufacturing and other industries. Anderson is the seat of Madison County.
