Bratenahl is a 4 mile long, half mile wide strip of land on the Lake Erie shore, 7 miles northeast of downtown Cleveland. The village, which separated from Glenville and incorporated in 1903 to resist annexation into Cleveland, was popular as a location of summer homes for wealthier Cleveland families of the early 20th century. Many of these vintage homes remain today along Lakeshore Boulevard, joined in the last 15 years by two new, upscale, lakefront housing developments.
