The Municipality of Roskilde is located 30 km west of Copenhagen. With a population of almost 53,000 it is the 6th largest on Zealand.
The city is more than 1000 years old and through the ages it has played an important role politically as well as culturally in Denmark. The main tourist attraction in Roskilde is the Cathedral. It has been the favourite burial place of the Royal Family since Queen Margrethe l was interred there about the year 1413.
Every year it host the Roskilde Festival which is one of the largest in Europe with some 80,000-90,000 visitors.
