Facts

  • The building featured consisted of a large post office on the first floor, government offices on the second floor, and a courtroom and offices on the third floor. A narrow 6-floor tower rose above 1st Street.
  • As part of a plan to centralize municipal, county, and federal offices, the Duluth City Hall was constructed directly adjacent to the north on the same block.
  • Demolished four years after completion of a new Heaney Federal Building on the adjacent block to the west, its removal completed Daniel Burnham's vision for the Duluth Civic Center.
