Facts

  • Initially built as a hotel. It was gutted in 1972-1973 to convert the former 220 hotel rooms into 106 apartment units.
  • In early 2003 the building had a significant termite problem and was covered in a tent for a four-day extermination.
  • The building's residents strongly opposed Desoto Tower, which they argued would dwarf the neighborhood.
  • The Bayshore Royal Hotel served as Air Force barracks during World War II.
  • WPKM 104.7 broadcast from the building in the 1950s and 60s.
