Facts

  • The architects were recognized with an Honor Award from the American Institute of Architects in 1972.
  • After completion of the new Guthrie Theater along the Mississippi River, the original Guthrie Theater attached to the Walker on the west side was torn down to make way for an expansion of the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden.
  • The Walker Art Center Theater Tower sharply contrasts with this simple brick building. In order to facilitate integration of the two structures, the Walker closed in February 2004.
  • The expanded complex reopened on April 17, 2005.
