Facts

  • The National D-Day Museum celebrated its grand opening on the 56th anniversary of the Normandy invasion, June 6, 2000.
  • New Orleans was selected as the site of the museum because of locally based Higgins Industries, which built the landing craft used in the amphibious invasions on D-Day.
  • Rebranded as the National World War II Museum on June 12, 2006, as the United States official World War II museum.
