Audubon Building, Hilton French Quarter, Audubon French Quarter

beaux-arts / historism
Plans were announced in mid-2003 to convert this building into the Hilton French Quarter Hotel. This proposal was scrapped in the aftermath of August 2005's Hurricane Katrina.
The 2003 proposal would have included the construction of an additional floor containing luxury hotel units.
In mid-2006, a proposal for this would convert it into 102 luxury condominium units.
The 2006 proposal calls for the addition of two floors and a penthouse. The proposal is opposed by the owners of the The Ritz-Carlton New Orleans who argue an increase in height will block views from their priciest rooms.
When originally constructed, this was to open as the Audubon Hotel, but the ownership decided during construction to build it as an office building instead.
