  • The Commonwealth Tower was topped out on October 12, 1973.
  • This was the first of two identical towers that would have been known as Commonweath Centre. The second tower was never built.
  • The tower was intended be the new offices for Commonwealth Corporation, a mortgage banking firm, which declared bankruptcy a month before the building was completed.
  • The unoccupied tower was sold to the state in 1975. It became home to the Department of Natural Resources.
