Facts

  • Originally constructed as the 14-story Commerce Center office building and completed in 1970.
  • Construction was delayed from the winter of 1967 to the spring of 1968 while financing issues and a realignment of the original group of investors was resolved.
  • Commerce Center was topped out on May 16, 1968.
  • The building underwent a reconstruction starting in 1999 which removed 8 floors and replaced them with four new floors. The renovation also replaced the international style facade with a new postmodern treatment.
  • The first phase of the Cooley Center renovation took place in 1999, which including the renovation of floors 1 and 2, and floors 6-10. The second phase included the renovation of a state-of-the-art courtroom complex on the fifth floor in Feburary of 2004. A groundbreaking for the 3rd and 4th classroom facilities took place on April 14th, 2005.
