Facts

  • The Petit Palais was built for the World's Fair of 1900. It replaced the Palais de l’Industrie which was built for the World's Fair of 1855. After the fair it became the home of the Musée des beaux-arts de la ville de Paris.
  • King Leopold II of Belgium attending the World's Fair was so impressed by the work of Girault that the architect was commissioned to build several structures in Belgium.
