Facts
Located on Buffalo's East Side away from downtown, the Central Terminal was a city unto itself when built, combining an office tower with transportation facilities.
It was never the success that it was hoped to be. The Depression began soon after it opened, and it was busy only during the years of World War II.
It has recently been left to decay. Its future is uncertain.
The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.
The station saw its last passenger train on October 28, 1979. The last Conrail offices moved out in 1984, leaving the building abandoned.
Central Terminal Restoration Corporation, which has owned the station since 1997, has been restoring the building as funds became available since 2004.
