  • • Architects: Paul Boué, Hans Wittfoht and Egon Jux. • Owner: Freie und Hansestadt Hamburg. • Contractors: Beton- und Monierbau AG, Carl Spaeter GmbH, Hein, Lehmann & Co., Philipp Holzmann AG, Polensky & Zöllner, Rheinstahl A.G., Siemens-Bauunion. ___________________________________________________________ • The Köhlbrandbrücke is a cable-stayed bridge, which connects the harbour between West & East areas in the South Elbe river by motorway A7 (exit Waltershof). • It was opened on 9 September 1974. • Since its opening the bridge has only twice been open to pedestrians, on the opening day 1974 and on its 30th birthday in 2004, but mainly is route from Trucks and cars to the container harbour. Once it was on route of Hamburg's yearly UCI ProTour bicycle race Vattenfall Cyclassics. Quite a number of the amateurs participating in this race make a stop on top of the bridge. • Specifications: - Reinf. Concrete: 81,000 m³. - Steel: 12,700 tons. - Each day, about 30,000 cars pass over the bridge. - Total Cost: DM 160 millions. - 88 steel cables (each of a diameter of 10 centimetres. - Length: 3,940 metres (3618 m by Structurae). - Main Span Length: 325 m. - length of main bridge: 520 m. - Span lengths after pylons bridge at sides: 97.50 m. - Deck depth: 3.45 m. - Deck Width: 17.6 m. - It is carried by 75 pylons. - The road has an inclination of 4%.
