Facts

  • Fully renovated in 1987, it is one of Uptown Charlotte's few remaining landmarks from the 1920s.
  • The Dunhill is Charlotte's only member of Historic Hotels of America and was one of its first luxury hotels. It was a success even during the Depression.
  • The penthouse on the top floor was constructed as a place for the original owner of the property to live in order to have the hotel built.
  • After its renovation in 1961, this reopened as the James Lee Motor Inn through its closure in 1981.
