Facts

  • Was given an Award of Excellence in 2005 by the Northern Virginia Chapter of the American Institute of Architects in the competition’s institutional architecture category.
  • Due to its location near FedExField, the station is outfitted with additional features to better handle large crowds. Amenities include platforms that are 30 feet wide, 4 more than at similar stations, 13 fare gates and doors opening directly to a sidewalk leading to the stadium.
  • Located along the Blue Line of the Washington Metro between the Addison Road-Seat Pleasant Station and the Largo Town Center Station.
  • Its construction differs from the majority of other stations with its white-painted, steel plate trusses and glass sheathing.
  • Both this and the Largo Town Center Station opened on December 18, 2004, as part of a 3.1 mile extension of the Blue Line. The extension marked the first additional mileage to the system after the completion of the original 103 mile network in 2001.
