On 19 May 2004 the new director of Latvian TV, Janis Holsteins, announced the beginning of a search for a new office building because of 2 million EUR in expected repair and maintenance costs to the existing headquarters.
The building is currently "too big" for the Latvian TV, which occupies less than half of it.
In the 1980s a taller, 27-story headquarters for the state radio was planned nearby to complete an architectural ensemble with this building.
